• In honor and veneration of Oshun

    Oshun is one of the most revered deities in the Ifá religion, an African traditional belief system practiced primarily by the Yoruba people and their descendants in the Americas. As one of the Orishas, Oshun is the goddess of love, fertility, rivers, beauty and healing. Her role in Ifá is central. Representing compassion, sweetness and abundance. Oshun is often seen as a protector of women and children and is called upon for matters of fertility, marriage and personal well-being. In the Yoruba creation story, Oshun is a key figure in the cosmic balance. Playing a pivotal role in bringing harmony to the world. Known for her ability to heal and bring prosperity, Oshun is celebrated for her nurturing nature but also for her strength and power in times of need. Her symbolism is deeply intertwined with water, particularly rivers, which represent both life-giving and transformative energy. Oshun is honored in numerous rituals, dances and ceremonies and she holds a significant place in the hearts of practitioners of Ifá, especially in the Afro-Caribbean and Afro-Brazilian traditions where she is widely worshipped.

    Great Queen, Daughter of the Mountain, Lady of Waterfalls, Mother of the Waters. Oshun is commonly called the river orisha or goddess in the Yoruba religion and is typically associated with water, purity, fertility, love and sensuality. She is considered one of the most powerful of all orishas and like others she possesses human attributes such as vanity, jealousy and spite. Oshun can also take away if she feels that we are ungrateful for what she has given.

    Oshun, Spirit of Sweet Water, is the embodiment of love and romance, wealth, beauty, abundance and magical knowledge. Oshun has dominion over things that flow: water, honey, love, money, mother’s milk and so forth.

    Her power extends over various parts of the human anatomy, particularly the reproductive organs. Oshun is petitioned for personal fertility and to heal reproductive disorders. She fulfills devotees’ wishes, providing wealth, employment, love, beauty and protection.

    Oshun is powerful and an expert at divination. Oshun may be Yemaya’s daughter or sister. They are extremely compatible and are venerated together. A spirit of incredible generosity, Oshun is very slow to anger. However once angered she is reputedly the most dangerous of all orishas and extremely difficult to appease. If you make her a promise and do not keep it, expect her to take back whatever she has given.

    If you petition Oshun for children, then eating pumpkins and yellow squash in any form, including the seeds is taboo for you. Many devotees refrain from these foods anyways just from respect even if nothing is asked of her. In Cuba, Oshun is syncretized to La Caridad del Cobre, “Our Lady of Charity”; in Brazil, she is identified with Catherine of Alexandria.

    Manifestations: She most commonly manifests as a breathtakingly beautiful woman, usually dressed in yellow or gold. She may manifest as a mermaid. She wears five brass bracelets and may carry or wear a mirror at her belt, the better to be able to stop and admire herself whenever she wishes. Oshun manifest in honey and in cinnamon.

In this practice I go beyond any other service and hold in high regard everything she is to me and all that I exude for my life. It will guide you forward with forgiveness and love, aligning you with your highest self in that area and if needed shifting you into a new timeline for your greatest good. This transformation is not subtle—it will unfold naturally even if you haven’t consciously decided to make changes. While most magick is rooted in choice, this journey will happen for you effortlessly. Expect profound epiphanies, realizations and moments of awakening along the way. If you’re already on a path of personal growth, the shifts might feel gentle but they will be loud and clear, more vivid than ever before.

    Oshun is constant in essence yet her expression shifts with time, season and spiritual climate. While she is at her core, love, sweetness, beauty, fertility and life itself... the way she moves and the energies she draws upon change from year to year. These shifting layers are not contradictions, they are dimensions.

    Each season, Oshun utilizes different aspects of herself and the forces around her to aid her children, guide communities and restore balance where it has been lost.

    It is important to understand that no two relationships with Oshun are the same. Within the tradition each person’s connection is defined by their own destiny, spiritual agreements and level of engagement. Initiated and non-initiated people alike can form energetic relationships with Oshun, though those relationships differ in responsibility, access and obligation. What is shared with you here is not a universal blueprint, it is the path that has been revealed to me.

    My relationship with Oshun is deeply personal and grounded in years of veneration, discipline, promises and spiritual groundwork. I do not borrow energy, titles, or authority. I do the work. I honor her through lifelong commitments, spiritual accountability and lived practice so that I may stand in community as a guide not as Oshun herself but as someone who listens, follows, and serves through the energy she allows me to hold.

    Each year, I follow the energetic layer surrounding Oshun as it presents itself and I allow that movement to guide the work I offer the community.

    This year, Oshun moves through a softer, more strategic layer of her power. The feminine builder. This is not weakness; it is refinement. It is tact, resourcefulness, patience and emotional intelligence applied with precision. According to the spiritual currents and the Letra of 2026, Oshun plays a supportive yet vital role in assisting Ogun, helping temper force with wisdom and ensuring that creation does not become destruction.

    The focus of the Amber River this year is solar and sacral activation. Confidence, creativity, self-worth and life force while protecting pathfinders, innovators and ideas still in their delicate stages of becoming. This is a year of tangible creation: building something real for your life, your future and your body of work.

    The call is to soften without shrinking. To release habits that demanded constant independence, overwork, hyper-control or the need to always be “the boss.” Those patterns created survival but they also created exhaustion.

    Oshun’s energy this year invites a complete restructuring: less force, more flow; less proving, more positioning.
